Te Whatu Ora bargaining update

Kia ora Member,

Bargaining update

Your bargaining team continued bargaining with Te Whatu Ora this week, picking up where we left off in December last year.

We canvassed claims raised by members, focusing on priority issues such as pay, safe staffing alongside equity and professional development issues.

Some progress was made around the staffing claims, although the extent of this progress will only become apparent over the coming weeks. Pay remains a significant barrier to settlement, with Te Whatu Ora’s current position not meeting members claim for a wage increase that meets increases to the cost of living.

While progress has been slow, with us now having concluded 42 days of bargaining, we have reached an agreement on 13 of the 40 issues taken into bargaining by members.

Member meetings

Members took action throughout 2025, with action continuing through the Christmas and New Year period in the form of visibility strikes in various Districts. This action supported your bargaining team keeping pressure on Te Whatu Ora and ensuring that the public are aware of the need to resource the health system.

Now it is time to report back to members.

Member meetings will start on 9 February, where your bargaining team will report back and seek direction on our next steps. You are entitled to attend these meetings. We will provide details of the meetings next week.

Yours in solidarity.
