Initiation of bargaining
Members in very senior roles have agreed to bargain for a collective agreement and today NZNO initiated bargaining with Te Whatu Ora.
We enter this bargaining looking to address the relativity issues between members employed on the Designated Senior scales and those employed in very senior roles, some of whom are paid less than those they manage or support. We are also seeking to address inconsistent terms and conditions of employment for members who perform the same work in different Districts and look to provide the protection of a collective agreement for members in very senior roles.
While we have been preparing for initiation, Te Whatu Ora have been considering a long overdue pay rise for employees currently employed on individual employment agreements. This pay increase would see people receive 2.5% from 1 April this year, followed by a further 1.5% increase in July this year. NZNO members will receive these increases, which fits well as a short-term measure while we look to achieve the goals identified by members. Importantly, Te Whatu Ora is not currently offering these increases to employees on fixed term agreements, which have become more prevalent in recent years. NZNO has asked that the increase be extended to those employees, but failing that, will also take this issue into bargaining.
Next steps
Now that we have initiated bargaining, Te Whatu Ora are required to let all employees covered by our collective bargaining know that this has happened. We will arrange a meeting of members to confirm our claims for bargaining and decide who will be part of our bargaining team. This will happen in the next couple of weeks. From there, we will secure bargaining dates with Te Whatu Ora.
A final note
Some members in very senior roles do not receive these emails because they joined NZNO many years ago as a Registered Nurse and haven’t updated position details with NZNO as their career developed. We would appreciate your help by forwarding this email to others in very senior roles who haven’t received this email and asking that they update their details with NZNO through our member support centre on 0800 28 38 48.
